What is GEAR UP?
BASICS
GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a federal grant program managed by WSU (Washington State University) that partners with local school districts to assist and encourage students to enter and succeed in Higher Education. Targeted schools include both low income and rural districts. Early Outreach programs are open to ALL students in the cohorts the program serves. For more information about how GEAR UP programs may benefit you, please read through the following programs below and if you still have questions you can email the GEAR UP site director on the Contact page.
CAMPUS TRIPS
GEAR UP takes multiple campus tours through out the year to many different colleges and universities. Students are either selected for specific trips based on their interest inventory or will attend a trip with their whole class. Occasionally, students will have the opportunity to sign up for a trip on this website so check the Events Calendar often to insure you reserve your spot.
ADMISSIONS & FINANCIAL AID HELP
We know that college and university admissions paperwork can be a bit overwhelming at first. But, it's not so hard once you break down the process into steps and get a little help and that is what GEAR UP is hear to do. We strive to make the admissions process as painless as possible. We also help with financial aid and scholarship information to make paying for college a bit easier as well. If you ever thought, "I can't go to college because I can't afford it," stop by the GEAR UP office or shoot us an email before you scratch college off your bucket list. We can walk you through the process and you will see that it's more attainable then you may have thought. Check out the Resources page for some websites and documents that you might find helpful.
TUTOR HELP
GEAR UP also provides tutors that sit in classrooms and assist students as needed. They all understand that part of getting into college or university is middle school and high school academic success. So, they are there to help you with whatever you may be struggling to understand. They also help you to get organized so that you can be as successful as you possibly can. Most tutors are current or former college students and are able to help with most subjects and answer any questions you may have about college. You can get to know our tutors a little bit better by visiting the Meet The Staff page.
